February 2019 - Equatorial Guinea

On February 12th, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened the fifteenth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society Organizations at the United Nations Headquarters.

The dialogue featured H.E. Anatolio Ndong Mba, Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea to the UN, and President of the Security Council for the month of February. WFUNA’s Senior Peace and Security Officer, Ms. Margaret Williams, moderated the Briefing, which was attended by over 40 participants from UN-accredited civil society organizations.

Ambassador Ndong Mba shared the Council’s action-packed agenda for the month beginning with a high-level debate on “Mercenary activities as a source of insecurity and destabilization in Africa,” the Council’s visiting mission to Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau, and high-level debate on “Silencing the Guns in Africa” scheduled to take place at the end of the month. The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on topics relating to Women, Peace and Security and the role of NGOs in Security Council affairs as well as country specific crises in Myanmar, North Korea, and Venezuela.

 

January 2019 - The Dominican Republic

On January 14, 2019, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened the fourteenth in a series of Civil Society Dialogues with the President of the United Nations Security Council at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The dialogue featured Mr. José Singer, Special Envoy of the Dominican Republic to the UN Security Council for the month of January. Ms. Margaret Williams, WFUNA’s Senior Peace and Security Officer, moderated the discussion that brought together over 30 UN-focused civil society representatives and their networks.

Mr. Singer highlighted the Dominican Republic’s priorities for the month of January which include multilateral cooperation, human rights, environmental rights, cyber security, and illegal arms traffic. He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing peace and security of the climate with particular emphasis on the impact of natural disasters and climate change. Mr. Singer then answered questions from CSO representatives on a wide range of topics including Myanmar, Yemen, Venezuela, youth peace and security, and successes of the UN Security Council.

 

July 2018 - Sweden

    On Monday, March 12, 2018, Ms.  Lise Gregoire-van Haaren, Deputy Permanent Representative of  the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations, participated in a briefing on the Netherlands's Presidency of the UN Security Council.     September 2017 - Ethiopia

    On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, H.E. Ms. Mahlet Hailu, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations who represented H.E. Takeda Alemu, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN, participated in a briefing on Ethiopia's Presidency of the UN Security Council.     May 2017 - Uruguay

    March 2017 - United Kingdom

    On Monday February 27 2017, H.E. Mr. Matthew Rycroft, UK Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, participated in a briefing on the UK's Presidency of the UN Security Council.     February 2017 - Ukraine

    On Friday February 3 2017, H.E. Mr. Volodymr Yelchenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, became the second Ambassador to participate in WFUNAs Civil Society Dialogue with the President of the United Nations Security Council initiative.     January 2017 - Sweden

    On Friday January 6 2017, H.E.
