Current Projects

1) Intra Swiss Youth Forum on the United Nations (ISYFUN): Traditionally, the first event organized by JUNES at the beginning of each term. The Forum takes place in Geneva and organizes meetings with officials of UN accredited or affiliated organizations at the United Nations Headquarters (UNOG). The forum serves as an excellent first opportunity for interested students in Switzerland to become acquainted with the work and functions of the UN through JUNES. As such, the event also provides a chance to socialize with other members and helps strengthen the bond between the Model United Nations Teams of Switzerland.

2) The MUNtain Retreat: The MUNtain Retreat was first launched in 2014 to strenghen the synergies of our member associations. This event brings together the Board of JUNES and all JUNES delegates for a weekend in an informal setting. A number of workshop facilitates the exchange of best practice and strenghten the ties between MUN teams. Furthermore, sessions dedicated to debate the development of JUNES display an important mechanism for ensuring JUNES feedback, accountability and creative ideas.

3) Rhetoric Workshop: The annual Rhetoric Workshop, organized by a member association, serves to prepare Swiss delegates for national and international MUN conferences. Under the guidance of Mr. Florian Rexer, a professional actor specializing in public speaking training, the participant learn about different preparation techniques before speeches and how to overcome stage fright. A number of 15 students are expected to participate each year.

4) JUNES MUN 2015: It is the annual Swiss MUN Conference and the oldest event in the organizational portfolio. In terms of the number of participants JUNES MUN is also the biggest annual event of JUNES. Extended to 3 days with guest speakers.

5) UN Workshop: in collaboration with the Swiss Youth Delegates, JUNES organizes an annual workshop on current UN-related issues. The specific knowledge of the participants acquired through MUN, allows for an in-depth analysis as well as a highly interactive environment. The number of participants varies between 25-35.

6) The International Study Project (ISP) 2015 in collaboration with UNYANET: Visit to the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), both the south and north part of the divided island, to learn about the current situation, the political background and hear testimonies of the population. Two preparatory workshops will take place in Switzerland with the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the United Nations Office at Geneva Mr. Andrea Ignatiou. The ISP team will then participate in a two-week study trip to Cyprus. Starting in the divided capital Nikosia, and the buffer zone and the UN Peacekeeping Force Headquarters, students will gain in-depth and on the ground information on the reunification debate by talking to representatives of the mission itself, blue-helmet soldiers, local people, politicians from both sides, UN negotiators and various experts. At their return from the study trip the ISP is finalized with a public final session in Switzerland structured as a round-table debate including the ISP team, experts and UN officials involved in the issue.

7) Swiss MUN Club (SMC): launched for a test period of one year in mid-2014 with the aim to establish a competitive joint delegation of all JUNES member associations with the ability to take part in major international MUN conferences and compete for awards. For the term 2014/15, a SMC delegation will participate at OxiMUN in Oxford and NMUN in New York. The members of the SMC will be selected based on their experience and capabilities and receive special training for selected MUN conferences. These trainings will be open to all members of JUNES member associations and consist of work preparation, exercises as well as presentations by experienced delegates and guest speakers.
