UNA Youth (UNA-UK Youth Wing)

UN Association of the United Kingdom (UNA-UK)

UNA Youth is the youth wing of UNA-UK. It brings together young people from across the UK who are passionate about the need for a strong and effective United Nations. Our aim is to build a better understanding of the UN, and to equip young people to play a prominent role in international affairs.

The activities of UNA Youth are overseen by the Youth Council, which is elected at the UNA Youth annual conference. The Youth Council exists to support, develop and coordinate the activities of braches and to provide a link between individual UNA Youth members. It also runs national campaigns and eventswhich individuals and branches can get involved with. The Youth Council has a President, Vice-President, and Secretary.

Current Projects

  • Milllenium Development Goals Video Series: The youth council is currently in process of producing and publishing short informational videos that track the progress of the Millennium Development Goals. The production aims on making more people aware about the current status of progress and development in key areas such as poverty, healthcare, education and the environment. You can see videos here
  • Campaign Pack: In order to assist UNA youth branches in their campaigning and to provide guidance and ideas on how to execute them, the youth council puts together a campaign pack that focuses on key international days of the United Nations. The campaign pack enlists possible ideas on how a branch can ensure maximum on-campus participation for the chosen days. It also highlights contact details of the organization closely associated for further information. Download the Campaign Pack here

Past Projects

  • National UNA Youth Elections: United Nations Association Youth United Kingdom holds national elections corresponding to university academic terms annually to elect the Youth Council. The current youth council is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Co-Opted MUN Officer and a Co-Opted Campaigns Manager that help assist more than 45 UNA youth branches across the country.
  • Freshers Fair: This is the councils event that kick-starts the academic year. Often times national quizzes and campaigns are organized aimed to galvanize new students at university to the work of the United Nations Association. In the year 2014, a quiz was organized at all 45 youth branches, testing students on information about the Security Council and the work of the United Nations. All branches recorded their scores and sent them back to the main office. The prize was an exclusive high-tea meeting with the former British Ambassador to the United Nations, Sir Jeremy Greenstalk.
  • UNA Youth Annual Conference: UNA Youth organizes an annual conference that aims at initiating debate and discussion on a particular focal theme related to the United Nations. It serves to be a platform for young people from across the country to meet and discuss and hear expert opinion on these issues. The event is also marked by a strong career oriented agenda. In the year 2014, the theme of the conference was the Responsibility to Protect and featured John Erickson from the United Nations Careers Services to address students interested in an international career.

In addition to the above listed national events, the youth council coordinates many regional events such as MUN conferences at universities, academic talks and liaising and connecting branches based on geographical proximity. The Youth council helps regional committees contact speakers and organizers for the various events.

Would like to network on

The youth council of the United Nations Association in the United Kingdom is now looking to expand branches into various universities. The process of founding a local youth branch is quite easy and is explained step by step on UNA-UK’s website.

In arranging Google+ Hangouts and Skype Conferences, we want to further expand to share best practices with UNA’s around Europe. Through the medium of the European UNA's Meeting, our youth council in the UK ensures participation that aims at diversification.
