NEW YORK – On October 6-7, 2017, leaders from United Nations Associations (UNAs) around the world who are elected as our current Executive Committee met in New York for two days for the 217th Executive Committee meeting. Members discussed the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and ongoing activities of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and national UNAs. 

The Executive Committee members were briefed by Richard Gowan, Research Director at the New York University Center on International Cooperation, on the progress made and challeges faced by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his first nine months in office. 

H.E. Kaha Imnadze, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN, also briefed the members of the Executive Committee on Friday. He spoke about his experience of putting the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 16, into practice in his home country of Georgia. Ambassador Imnadze also spoke about the upcoming 16+ Forum Annual Showcase, to be hosted in Tbilisi, Georgia this November. 

The Executive Committee was then visited by Preeti Malhotra, Partner and Executive Director of Smart Group and Founder Member of Global Citizen Forum, who introduced the Smart Group‘s work and spoke about the Global Citizen Forum. WFUNA will partner with Global Citizen Forum on joint initiatives. 

The next meeting of the WFUNA Executive Committee will take place in April of 2018.
