NEW YORK - The 35th Session of the Committee on Information has recently recommended to the General Assembly in its draft report to recall its resolution 41/68 D on 3 December 1986 where it commends the World Federation of United Nations Associations and its more than 100 national United Nations Associations for its contributions in support of the United Nations (Draft Resolution B, Article VI.85).

ROME - WFUNA Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi visited UNA-Italy, also known as SIOI (Societa' Italiana dell'Organizzazione Internazionale), in Rome, Italy on 3-4 June 2013. 

The Secretary-General was welcomed by UNA-Italy's President, Hon. Franco Frattini, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, and his team, led by Dr. Sara Cavelli, Director General at UNA-Italy. Several meetings were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome based UN institutions, and the City of Rome.

Chaired by Irene Martinetti, WFUNA’s Director of Programs, the objective of the session was to share concrete advice on how NGOs can engage effectively with the Human Rights Council.

206th Meeting of the Executive Committee, New York

The Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), elected by non-partisan civil society organizations in over 100 countries, continues to be gravely concerned over the recent developments in the Syrian conflict and expresses deep solidarity with the people of Syria who are confronting serious atrocities.

WFUNA 206th ExCo Meeting

NEW YORK - The 206th Meeting of the Executive Committee of WFUNA was held in New York from 10-11 May, with 16 members present. The two day meeting discussed policy, membership, and programmatic topics, with a special briefing from Mr. Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, Under Secretary-General of Communications and Public Information (UNDPI) and Mr. Maher Nasser, Director of Outreach. The meeting was hosted by UNA-USA and held in its New York offices at the UN Foundation.

On 8-9 April 2013 WFUNA held its first European UNAs Meeting in Vienna, Austria, at the invitation of the United Nations Association of Austria. In collaboration with the United Nations Information Service (UNIS), UNA-Austria organized an extensive program of briefings at the Vienna International Center for representatives of the 16 participating UNAs of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Norway, and Sweden.

UNA-Finland, UNA-Tanzania and WFUNA just implemented the "Effective Advocacy in UN Processes" workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The workshop, which was held from 11-14 March 2013, was followed by a public seminar titled "Towards a Common Vision for the Post-2015 Development Agenda in Tanzania" held on 15 March 2013.

The 35 participants in the workshop included Civil Society Organizations representatives - including UNA representatives - from Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.
