From 18-22 August, WFUNA had the pleasure of welcoming 21 remarkable Chinese students to our "Advanced Training at the UN: China" Program, organized in cooperation with the Research Centre of United Nations and International Organizations (RCUNIO). For 5 days, participants had the opportunity to get to know better the UN in Geneva and its work around the issues of Technology, sustainable Development, Trade and Humanitarian Affairs.

Before they end their mandate as UN Youth Delegates to Romania, we wanted to highlight our interview with Eliza Chirilă, 22, and Cosmin Chiriță, 23. Here they described how they became involved with the programme and the ideas they had on how to expand its reach in their home country.

What motivated you to become a Youth Delegate?

Eliza: I was following the program since I was in high school. Now, I live in Bucharest, which is the capital of Romania, but I used to live in a small city before becoming a student.

August 12 is International Youth Day! To celebrate the day, we wanted to higlight the importance of youth voices in the post-2015 development agenda. WFUNA Youth Network and UNA youth members chose one option from the 16 options available on MyWorld2015 and we compiled them in a video below. Statement in Memory of  Axel Wüstenhagen

The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), including its Officers, Executive Committee and member UNAs would like to send its deepest sympathies and wholehearted condolences to Axel Wüstenhagen’s family. We have lost a great leader and friend who for many decades provided service to the international community, the UN, and the UNA family.

During the WFUNA European UNAs meeting, which took place from 2-3 June 2014 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, youth representatives from participating UNAs, UN Youth Associations, chapters, sections and wings joined the general meeting as well as organized a meeting specifically for youth reps on 3 June.

WFUNA is pleased to welcome two new Friends of WFUNA Board members: Mr. Mario Bernardo Garnero, Jr. and Ms. Nancy Prager-Kamel

Mr. Garnero brings with him expertise in Brazilian and corporate affairs and real estate. Ms. Prager-Kamel offers her expertise in corporate and government relations and financial advisory. Both have a long-standing commitment to the United Nations, and thus to the work of WFUNA.

During the 2014 World Conference on Youth in Colombo, Sri Lanka, we held a side event titled "How to Become a UN Youth Delegate?" co-hosted by UN Youth Delegates from Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Austria, Belgium, Indonesia and Norway. With approximately 25 countries out of 193 UN Member States participating in the UN Youth Delegate Programme, the event focused on how to boost those numbers and build interest among the youth leaders attending the conference.
