NEW YORK, NY – WFUNA delivered a statement along with more than 250 Non-Government Organizations at the Consultations of the United Nations Committee on Non-Government Organizations on June 22, 2018 at UN Headquarters in New York.

In the statement, WFUNA highlighted the opportunity afforded by the 2030 Agenda for collaboration between civil society and the United Nations, and expressed concern for how the work of the United Nations is currently being impacted by shrinking civil society spaces. WFUNA called for consultative status to be approved for more NGOs in order to benefit from civil society’s growing and indispensable expertise. Finally, WFUNA called out the differences in way NGOs with consultative status are treated at respective UN offices, noting that access is easier in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna than at headquarters in New York City.
