Prof. Emer. Dr. Ervin GÖMBÖS has been the Secretary-General of the UNA of Hungary since 1981. (Not a paid job.) In this capacity he has been also the editor of the UNA’s publications (more than 40 books and major UN documents in Hungarian.) During his long term the UNA and its activities have grown tremendously and become a nationwide network. He had various positions in WFUNA (Vice-President 1983-87, 1991-95, 2009-2015, member of the Executive Committee 1987-91, 1995-2009 and 2015-).

He has MSc in mathematics & physics (Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences, Budapest) and MA in Political Sciences (International Relations) (School of Political Sciences, Budapest). And a Scientific Degree (Candidate of Sciences) from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Thesis: "Informatics and Power"

He was one of the founders of the International Business School in Budapest in 1991. He is now Professor Emeritus at the School. Between 1991-2002 he was Deputy Head. Earlier he worked for the Hungarian Central Statistical Office for 25 years (Head of Department, senior statistical counselor). He was a staff member at the UN Statistical Office in New York for 5 years between 1971-1976. At the UN he participated in the elaboration and review of development projects in informatics and statistics for developing countries. He had developed computerized systems for World Energy Supplies, International Trade Statistics and National Accounts.

In 1969 he was director of a six-month international IFIP seminar in Hungary on EDP under the aegis of the International Federation of Information Processing. 25 post-graduate participants came from developing and (at that time) socialist countries.

Member of several international professional associations. Since 1983 he has been an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. Attended and lectured at many international conferences both in Europe and outside Europe. Author of two books and co-author or editor of many others. Published some 50 studies on international relations, informatics, economics and statistics.
