So You Want to Be the Next High Commissioner? Results of UNA Human Rights Training for Youth, June 2011
On 21-24 June 2011, WFUNA held its first WFUNA Human Rights Youth Training at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The purpose of the training was to empower young individuals to take a leading role in upholding human rights in their communities. Our first youth story in implementing a human rights project in their local community comes from UNA-South Africa's Lisa Rothkegel, who organized a Human Rights Awareness Run on 21 March 2012. Third Dag Hammarskjold Symposium on Responsibility to Protect in Caracas, Venezuela, February 2012
Five of our youth representatives from UNAs in Latin America joined our R2P Program Officer in Caracas, Venezuela, to not only participate in, but host and facilitate the Third Dag Hammarskjold Symposium. The symposium was held in collaboration with the UN Association of Venezuela and the Embassy of Sweden in Bogota, Colombia, responsible for Venezuela and Colombia.
We asked these youth representatives from UNA-Venezuela, UNA-Colombia, and UNA-Mexico to share their experiences and thoughts on R2P. More stories coming soon!
Launch of UN World Youth Report 2011, February 2012
The WFUNA Youth Network attended the launch of the 2011 World Youth Report focusing on the issue of youth and employment on Monday, 6 February, at UN Headquarters in New York, New York. The overarching theme of the report launch on youth and employment stressed the importance of including youth in the actual report, as well as their experiences, in looking for employment or internships. Panelists at the launch ranged from youth contributors, mission staff, and UN agencies.
Dag Hammarskjold Symposium on Responsibility to Protect, Beijing, December 2011
Five of our youth representatives from UNAs around the world joined our R2P Program Officer in Beijing to participate in the Second Dag Hammarskjold Symposium. The symposium was held in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing, the Research Center on United Nations and International Organizations (Beijing Foreign Studies University), and UNA-China.
We asked these youth representatives from New Zealand, Nepal, Armenia, Korea, and Australia on our blog to share their experiences and thoughts on R2P.
