In the Declaration, Heads of State and Government called for:
- more inclusive political processes, allowing for genuine participation by all citizens in all our countries (para 25); and
- greater opportunities to the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society, in general, to contribute to the realization of the Organization’s goals and programs (para 30).

Acronym
WFUNA is proud to be launching a new series publication, ACRONYM, which features thought-provoking articles and dialogues on current United Nations topics, written by experts from various parts of the UN community. The first issue presents the article “Can We Fix the United Nations?" by Prof. Thomas Weiss. Read ACRONYM Online [PDF] or watch the webinar.
Global Environmental Organization
In the lead up to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, WFUNA is advocating for a stronger, more effective, and more representative Global Environmental Organization, created by upgrading the United Nations Environment Programme to a specialized agency. As Maurice F. Strong stated on 25 October, 2011 at Special United Nations General Assembly Event on Rio+20, the environment should no longer be treated as a sector but as a systemic issue.
