The internship is a full-time, six-month placement in WFUNA’s New York office at UN Headquarters.
Primary responsibilities include:
1. Coordinating WFUNA’s youth and Model UN projects, youth outreach and overall strategy relating to youth issues. Developing youth and Model UN programs, including proposal writing, grant writing, and project/ event management.
2. Communication and outreach about WFUNA and its programs to young people.
3. Working together with the youth and Model UN projects and programs of UNAs around the world.
4. Representing WFUNA at UN youth events and initiatives, liaising with the UN Youth Unit, and developing partnerships with youth/ Model UN organizations or projects.
5. Compiling information relating to youth and the UN and disseminating this information to UNAs.
Details:
1. The WFUNA Secretariat runs projects in the issue areas of sustainable development, peace and security, and human rights. Youth are included in all projects organized by the Secretariat. The Youth Intern will work with Secretariat staff to design new projects, implement existing projects, conduct background research for proposals, and explore fundraising possibilities.
2. WFUNA has been running a successful Model UN program for a number of years, and Model UN is an important activity for most UNAs as well. The Youth Intern will help develop and organize WFUNA Model UN conferences, provide guidance to UNAs starting new Model UN programs, promote the Model UN programs of WFUNA and UNAs, and collaborate with partner Model UN initiatives.
3. The Youth Intern will facilitate contact between the WFUNA Secretariat, the WFUNA-youth Coordinating Committee and other relevant actors in New York. The intern can be of assistance in keeping track of events taking place globally of potential interest to WFUNA-youth and UNAs, and in distributing this information via the WFUNA-youth listserv. The Youth Intern is a point of contact for the WFUNA network for youth issues at the Secretariat, and represents WFUNA at New York youth-related meetings and events.
4. UNAs and WFUNA-youth have a keen interest in being kept informed of developments at the UN relating to youth issues. The Youth Intern will help make this possible by gathering information from UN publications, documents and meetings with relevance to youth and make it available to WFUNA-youth and UNAs.
5. The Youth Intern will assist the Communications Strategist in producing outreach materials about WFUNA to young people and will be responsible for contributing youth and Model UN related information to UN Connections, the newsletter of WFUNA.

1. The WFUNA Secretariat is located at UN Headquarters in New York. The Youth Intern will have access to the United Nations building, conferences and events and resources such as the UN Library.
2. This position offers an excellent networking opportunity – the Youth Intern will be able to make contact with UN staff, diplomats, Youth delegates, UNA members, WFUNA-youth Coordinating Committee members, other youth NGOs and initiatives, and meet other interns from around the world who are working at the UN.
Additional considerations:
Model UN experience is required.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates with prior UNA experience.
Candidates must be enrolled at, or already graduated from, University, but must be under the age of 30
Familiarity of the UN system is beneficial.
Strong writing, drafting and computer skills are necessary; web editing knowledge is a plus.
