The First World Federation of United Nations Associations Latin American and Caribbean Regional Model United Nations Conference will be hosted by the UNA-Dominican Republic at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center on October 10th to 14th 2007 in the context of the International Conference of the Americas - CILA 2007, which will simulate 14 different organs and commissions of the United Nations and other regional and international multilateral institutions. The encounter will be a meeting point for more than 1,500 young people from the Dominican Republic, Latin America and other regions of the world to work together in an environment of diplomacy and cooperation in search for solutions to the challenges that the international community faces today. In addition, there will be seminars, conferences, workshops and exhibitions with topics directly related to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The working languages will be Spanish, English and French.
The UNA-Dominican Republic, along with local partners, will cover the accommodation costs of UNA delegations from the region. Each delegation will be asked to commit to completing a community service and advocacy follow-up project on the United Nations Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) or Model United Nations within six months after the conference. The UNAs in each country will oversee their completion.
The First World Federation of United Nations Associations Latin American and Caribbean Regional Model United Nations Conference will also provide a space for representatives of UNAs in the region to discuss issues of importance to our work, share best practices, and attend workshops on fundraising strategies and project management. In order to help establish more UNAs in the region, groups from two countries without the presence of a UNA will be invited to join us in the Regional Model United Nations Conference. WFUNA-Youth is an active partner in this event, and will be available as a resource to the participants.
