On 19 October 2016, UNA-Luxembourg, in collaboration with WFUNA, organized a celebration of 70 years from the foundation of WFUNA in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. WFUNA was founded on 2 August 1946 by 22 United Nations Associations (UNAs). This was one year after the UN Charter was proclaimed with the opening words “We the peoples of the United Nations”. Ever since, WFUNA has been the only global organization with the primary mission of supporting the principles and purposes of the United Nations.

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – On October 14, 2016, Bonian Golmohammadi, Secretary-General of WFUNA, Nikil Seth, Executive Director of UNITAR, and Jinyoung Chung, Vice-President of Kyung Hee University signed a memorandum inaugurating a trilateral partnership between their respective institutions in the field of education.

NEW YORK, NY - After the release of the results of the sixth informal Straw Poll today, and a subsequent formal vote tomorrow, it appears that the United Nations Security Council has reached a decision on a candidate to be nominated to the General Assembly to assume the position of UN Secretary-General. The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) welcome this show of unity by the Security Council.

WFUNA Secretary General met with Youth Delegates to the UN that were attending the 3rd Committee of the UN General Assembly. This year not only brought the biggest group ever with close to 70 Youth Delegates from over 35 different countries but also featured new member states such as Canada, Hungary, UAE and Chad. We are happy to see more countries sending Youth Delegates and we hope to see even more Youth Delegates next year.

The 33rd session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) wrapped up today! Throughout the month, the Council considered a wealth of issues: rights of Indigenous People, Youth and Human Rights, Human Rights situation in Syria, Burundi and Central African Republic.

At this session, the Council adopted 40 resolutions, 22 by consensus and 18 by vote.

On 26-27 September 2016, representatives from seventeen United Nations Associations met in Brussels, Belgium, on the occasion of WFUNA's annual meeting of European United Nations Associations. Hosted by the United Nations Regional Information Center (UNRIC), the meeting brought together UNA delegations from Europe to discuss issues and projects of common interest.
