Friday, April 15, 2016  WFUNA partnered with the NYC Bar Association to co-host "An Evening with His Excellency United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon" on the evening of April 14th.

Welcome remarks were given by Ms. Debra Raskin, President of the NYC Bar Association and the Secretary-General was introduced by Mr. Michael Cooper, Chair of the United Nations Committee and Friends of WFUNA board member.

In a much-lauded move towards transparency and accountability at the UN, the Office of the President of the General Assembly is hosting interactive dialogue sessions with prospective UN Secretary General candidates from Tuesday 12th until Thursday 14th April 2016. The eight current candidates, including current UNDP Administrator Ms. Helen Clark, the Director of UNESCO Ms. Irina Bokova, and the ex-President of Slovenia Dr. Danilo Turk, will present their vision for a United Nations under their stewardship.

February 16, 2016, NYWFUNA, along with 169 other civil society organizations, has endorsed an open letter to the Chair of the UN Statistical Commission and Co-Chairs of the Interagency Expert Group on the Sustainable Development Goals in advance of the UN Statistical Commission Meeting to be held in New York March 8-11.

Febrary 16th, 2016, NYWFUNA is deeply saddened by the passing of former United Nations Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who served from January 1992 to December 1996. He was a supporter of WFUNA and the work of United Nations Associations worldwide. His influence will not be forgotten.

Monday - The UN and Multilateralism

On our first day of Advanced Training Program at the UN, Naïs Mouret, our Training and Education Fellow, introduced WFUNA and its work to our group of 16 Chinese students. This introductory session was followed by a briefing on the UN system presented by Jana Bauerova, Perception Change Project Officer, from the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).

On the occasion of the launching of the Save the Earth Green Corps Exhibition, WFUNA, in partnership with Future Forest and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) organized a panel discussion on the Outcomes of COP21. The long awaited Conference of the Parties (COP), held in Paris between 30 November and 11 December, ended on a common agreement adopted by 195 member States. The event was sponsored by Korea Foundation, the representative organization for Korean public diplomacy.

For the first time ever, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution on the role of young men and women in peace building and preventing violent extremism. Resolution 2250, sponsored by Jordan, builds on the Amman Youth Declaration, acknowledges the pressing need to engage young peacebuilders in efforts to promote lasting peace.

DECEMBER 10, 2015 - WFUNA Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi issued a statement to mark International Human Rights Day:

"2015 has been a crucial year for the United Nations: a new development agenda

has been adopted in which human rights principles and standards are strongly

reflected. This is a powerful acknowledgment by Member States that there

cannot be development without peace and human rights."
