On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened the fifth in a series of Civil Society Dialogues with the President of the United Nations Security Council at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Twenty-eight student representatives from 15 universities took part in the third edition of WFUNA’s College Leaders at the UN Program. The participants are Korean nationals, selected and sent from their respective universities to represent the school at the United Nations. The student cohort started the program in April, meeting once a week to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals.

NEW YORK, USA - The role young people play in contributing to peacebuilding has been recognized by the UN Security Council through its resolution 2250. Other frameworks have followed such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and “Sustaining Peace”. Unfortunately, the narrative portraying young people as protagonists of violent acts is still pervasive, when the general evidence is that young people are not only committed but also contributing to building peace around the world.

Through our partnership with the Sookmyung Women's University, a group of nineteen university students attended the second WFUNA Advanced Training Program of the summer. The week-long training took place at UN Headquarters in New York City, where the participants heard from UN experts, studied the Sustainable Development Goals and presented their ideas on their implementation.

Through our partnership with the Research Center of United Nations and International Organizations (RCUNIO), a group of eighteen university and high schools students attended the first WFUNA Advanced Training Program of the summer. The group travelled to Washington, DC to visit various UN organizations including the World Bank, the Women Thrive Alliance, and the International Monetary Fund.

NEW YORK, USA - With the theme “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world” and SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17 up for review, the 2017 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was held from 10 July-19 July under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. 44 member states presented Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the progress so far in the national implementation of the 2030 Agenda. This HLPF was the largest ever in terms of participation with 2458 registered representatives.
