Laura Spano, WFUNA’s Responsibility to Protect Program Officer, served on a panel on 22 November, 2011, to discuss the Rule of Law and Protection of Civilians. The panel was part of a larger workshop put on by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on strengthening the rule of law held for delegates to Permanent Missions in New York, particularly from developing or least developed countries.

WFUNA held its 202nd Executive Committee meeting, hosted by the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA), in New Delhi, India, on 3-5 November 2011, with 13 UNAs of the Executive Committee represented from Australia, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Finland, India, the Republic of Korea, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Venezuela.

Following the 64th Annual UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI)/NGO meeting in Bonn last month, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon held a special meeting with NGO representatives at the United Nations in New York on 26 October.

On November 1st, WFUNA submitted its contribution to the UNCSD compilation document. In preparation for the Rio +20 conference, the UNCSD put out a call for input from Major Groups as identified in Agenda 21. Major Groups, including nongovernmental organizations, were invited to submit papers on how the world can move towards sustainable development.

WFUNA held its European UNAs Meeting in Geneva on 3-4 October 2011. Participating UNAs included Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Finland, Hungary, Israel, Luxembourg, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The Forum, held at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, was attended by representatives from China, Korea and Japan, including Ambassador Chen Jian, President of UNA-China. In his statement, Ambassador Park spoke of the importance of nurturing a culture of dialogue and mutual understanding among young people in the region as a way to expand their horizons, as well as WFUNA's active role in strengthening the engagement of young people.

Among those coming to NY were the Director of the Research Center, the Director of Beijing Foreign Studies University Board, and senior Professors of the University.
