In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the first UN General Assembly resolution, which established the goal of eliminating nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction, WFUNA will be partnering with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs to sponsor the UN Poster for Peace Contest.

The contest aims to raise awareness of the need for nuclear disarmament and to inspire citizens across the globe to add their voices, and use their artistic talents, to promote a world free of nuclear weapons.

In honour of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, landmarks around the world were illuminated in UN Blue to "help raise awareness about the work of the UN, to unite citizens around the world, and to highlight the relationship between peoples of the Member States where the landmarks are located to the Organization."

The UN Department of Information (DPI) invited WFUNA and United Nations Associations around the world to participate, and many UNAs rose to the occasion.

NEW YORK, NY – On October 23, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) proudly continues its United Nations Day tradition with events thanking its supporters and donors in New York, Geneva, and Seoul. WFUNA was happy to welcome to their office Ms. Suk-ja Cho from the Mapo-gu Office, Ms. Yoon-jung Cho from the Korea Edu-Care Association and Mr. Hunkyu Moon from Go Go Africa, all representatives of organizations affiliated with the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Volunteer Center. The briefing included an overview of WFUNA's work in education and volunteerism and provided an opportunity for WFUNA to learn more about the government's volunteer efforts in Seoul.

WFUNA Secretary General, Bonian Golmohammadi, and Director of Programs in WFUNA's Geneva office, Irene Martinetti, travelled to Bhopal, India over the weekend to attend the International Conference on Human Rights: Contemporary Issues & Challenges, hosted by the Jagran Lakecity University in collaboration with WFUNA.

WFUNA and a group of peacebuilding organizations from around the world have produced a shared statement to mark the International Day of Peace. Recognizing the importance of the inclusion of Goal 16 within Agenda 2030, the statement urges the international community to collaboratively reflect on what needs to be done to foster the growth of peaceful, just, and inclusive societies worldwide. WFUNA has joined 33 other NGOs in signing a letter from the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect (ICRtoP) that urges UN Member States to support the Accountability, Coherence, and Transparency (ACT) Group's "Code of Conduct regarding Security Council action against genocide, crimes against humanity, or war crimes."
