NEW YORK, NY -- WFUNA joined 237 Civil Society Organizations in signing a letter to the President of ECOSOC at the closing of this year's High Level Political Forum. The letter contains several concrete suggestions for HLPF 2017, including national reviews, a ministerial segment, as well as thematic roundtables and dialogues.

Yesterday, the UN General Assembly voted Bolivia, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan and Sweden onto the Security Council for a two year non-permanent seat from 2017-2018. The fifth and final non-permanent seat up for re-election will eventually, after a formal vote, be split between Italy and the Netherlands, after an arrangement was made to break a voting deadlock.

NEW YORK, NY –The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) hosted interactive dialogues with the candidates for President of the 71st Session of the General Assembly on June 10 at UN Headquarters in New York. H.E. Mr. Andreas Mavroyiannis, the candidate nominated by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, and then H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, the candidate nominated by the Government of Fiji, presented their opening statements and answered live questions from member states and civil society.

WFUNA signed an memorandum of understanding (MOU) Thursday, June 2nd, with the Asian Soccer Star Hong Myung Bo, who leads a scholarship foundation (HMB Foundation) for marginalized children. The two organizations plan to collaborate in preparing the WFUNA Campaign against Child Labor, scheduled to launch this December at the Hong Myung Bo Charity Match, a widely publicized event in Korea.

WFUNA's President, Secretary-General and staff attended the 66th UN DPI NGO Conference in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea from May 30-June 1. The conference's theme was “Education for Global Citizenship: Achieving the SDGs Together” and drew 2500 participants from around the world.

NEW YORK, NY, May 25, 2016 – The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened historic Security Council Election Debates with candidates for non-permanent seats in the upcoming elections on June 28th. Debates took place at UN Headquarters on May 23rd and 24th—first with Ambassadors of Thailand and Kazakhstan from the Asia-Pacific Group, and second with Ambassadors of Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden from the Western European & Other Group.
