On Monday, 18 April 2016, Moscow’s State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) opened its 17th Moscow International Model United Nations (MIMUN- 2016), dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Association of Russia. Six hundred forty-two delegates gathered in the conference hall of the University from most regions of Russia and 41 countries of the world. They represent UN Member States and discuss crucial issues’ on the international agenda.

The Chairman of UNA-Russia and Dean of MGIMO University, Ambassador Anatoly Torkunov, opened the event. Guest speakers included Mr. Aleksey Pushkov, Head of the Foreign Affairs committee in the State Duma, Mr. Anatoly D. Viktorov, Director, Department of Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the United Nations Information Center, and Ms. Irene Martinetti, Director of Programs at the WFUNA Geneva Office. Dr. Alexey Borisov,Secretary-General of UNA-Russia, Grigory Kovrikzhenko, Honorary President of WFUNA and Coordinator of MIMUN 2016, and the Secretary-General of MIMUN 2016 were present at the opening ceremony.
