Civil Society Dialogue with the President of the UN Security Council for September

On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened the fifth in a series of Civil Society Dialogues with the President of the United Nations Security Council at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The dialogue featured H.E. Ms. Mahlet Hailu, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations who represented H.E. Takeda Alemu, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN and President of the UN Security Council for the month of September. Mr. Bonian Golmohammadi, WFUNA’s Secretary-General, moderated the discussion that brought together over 30 UN-focused civil society representatives.

Ambassador Hailu highlighted items added to the UN Security Council's program of work for September, which touched upon work already undertaken during Ethiopia's Presidency, including the Joint Annual Consultation between the UNSC and the AU Peace and Security Council and discussions focused on partnership, funding for African peace and security activities and post-conflict peacebuilding, as weel as the upcoming high-level open debate during the General Assembly focused on UN Peacekeeping reform in relation to the HIPPO report. She then answered questions from CSO representatives on a wide range of topics including youth and civil society involvement at the UN, peacekeeping, Myanmar, North Korea, and South Sudan, among other issues.
