216th Meeting of the Executive Committee

The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization representing and coordinating a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations.

NEW YORK - On June 9-10, 2017, leaders from United Nations Associations (UNAs) around the world who are elected as our current Executive Committee met in New York for two days for the 216th Executive Committee meeting. Members discussed the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and ongoing activities of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and national UNAs. 

The Executive Committee members were briefed by Ambassador Sofia Borges, Special Advisor in the Office the President of the General Assembly who spoke about the inclusion of Goal 16 in the Sustainable Development Agenda, the importance of strong institutions, and the monitoring of implementation and progress. She also spoke about her experience putting Goal 16 into practice in her home country of Timor Leste. 

Lakshmi Puri, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, also briefed the members of the Executive Committee during the two day meeting. She spoke about UN Women's mission and objectives, Goal 5, and how to involve everyone in achieving gender equality. The members then joined Ms. Puri and her team in giving "a high five to goal 5."

The next meeting of the WFUNA Executive Committee will take place in New York City during October of 2017.
