WFUNA and Human Rights
Promotion of human rights, human rights advocacy and human rights education have been at the core of WFUNA's programmatic work since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
WFUNA has worked alongside the United Nations for the development and implementation of a system of universal human rights – rights which are applicable to all human beings: old and young, male and female, rich and poor, whoever we are and wherever we are from.
Civil Society in Action for Human Rights
With the emergence of new economic and political forces, civil society will play a crucial role in ensuring that development policies and actions, at home and abroad, are pursued according to international human rights standards. One of WFUNA's latest projects, Civil Society in Action for Human Rights, to be launched in 2013, aims to ensure that the United Nations Associations are fully equipped to address today's human rights challenges.
Human Rights Nexus
In December 2008, WFUNA launched the Human Rights Nexus, which provides timely information about the UN Human Rights Council to United Nations Associations and civil society worldwide.
UNA Youth Human Rights Training
Through our annual UNA Human Rights Trainings, WFUNA aims to empower UNA youth members to take a leading role in upholding human rights in their communities and around the world. We inform and educate young UNA/UNYA members about human rights standards, human rights instruments and related implementing mechanisms, and train them on how to conduct effective human rights education and awareness raising activities within their communities.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights' Message to UNAs
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, delivered a message to the participants of WFUNA 40th Plenary Assembly in which she highlighted the essential work carried out by WFUNA and other civil society organizations in promoting and protecting human rights for all throughout the world.
