Go Beyond Fellowship Program

The Go Beyond Fellows program builds innovative global partnerships, while providing training forums to generate awareness of climate change.

Go Beyond Fellowship Program: Addressing a Global Problem with Local Solutions

The Go Beyond Fellowship program [PDF] aims to increase local capacity to address global climate change implications through dynamic and creative community action.  The ultimate goal of the program is to bring together corporations and civil society to respond to climate change and raise awareness at the locallevel. This greater goal has four supporting goals:

  • Integrate the corporate sector into the green transition

  • Educate civil society about climate change and its relationship to sustainable development

  • Bridge the North-South divide by creating an international network of Fellows working towards sustainable development across key industry verticals

  • Affect local and global climate policy through varied citizen engagement

The innovation of the Go Beyond Fellowship program lies in its approach. WFUNA, with its unique position at the intersection of global and local communities, is launching the Go Beyond Fellowship program to bring together the corporate sector, UNAs, and global citizens to find cutting-edge, grassroots solutions for climate change.

Go Beyond and Businesses

The Go Beyond Fellowship will urge businesses to go beyond the bottom line and invest in a sustainable future; it will challenge civil society leaders to go beyond traditional approaches to climate action; it will go beyond restricted approaches to the issue and provide a multi-scale, interdisciplinary solution to climate change.

Through this program, WFUNA and its partners will:

  • Award 25 Fellowship grants with which to implement a climate change awareness-raising project in local communities. Based on their project proposal and experience, the Fellows will be awarded grants for climate change projects in one of five theme-based Networks: the arts, business and entrepreneurship, sports, community outreach, or science and technology.

  • Create an international network of fellows. In partnernship with our UNAs, the Go Beyond Fellowship program will be based in every region of the world, with Fellows representing their Network in their country. These intersecting and international networks of regions and Networks will allow Fellows to accelerate and expand the reach of their ideas. Once a year, the Fellows will come together to discuss the progress of their projects and best management practices.

  • Provide Interactive Web-based Training Forums and support for Fellows to develop, implement, and sustain local Go Beyond Fellowship initiatives. Our webinar training series will equip Fellows with the tools to serve as global sustainability leaders with access to world-class speakers and experts in the field.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has named climate change the “defining issue of our time".  The Go Beyond Fellowship program addresses the interrelated causes of climate change simultaneously while providing all sectors of society the opportunity to engage in community-based solutions.
