After holding a successful Symposium to commemorate the life of Dag Hammarskjold in Venezuela, WFUNA Secretary-General Bonian Golmohammadi and R2P Program Officer Laura Spano visited Colombia to see the wonderful work UNA-Colombia has been developing.

Though it was only a short visit, WFUNA had a jam-packed two days as UNA-Colombia introduced them to many of their projects and partners.

WFUNA met with the Andean Parliament to discuss the Millennium Development Goals and nuclear disarmament, and develop a partnership to work together on these issues. WFUNA also met with the working group on the Reduction of Armed Violence, Promotion of Development and Construction of Peace hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); and representatives from the University of Jorge Tadeo Lozano to discuss and congratulate them on their successful Model UN program. They ended the day debating the importance of civil society participation in climate change with Colombian policy makers working with Globe Colombia. WFUNA also partnered with Globe Colombia to work together to prevent climate change and raise awareness on the issue.

The second day saw a visit to the office of the Mayor of Bogota – a new partner of both WFUNA and UNA-Colombia, who will work together towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals, nuclear disarmament, and preventing climate change. The following meeting was at UNDP to speak with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations on the many challenges Colombia faces and how WFUNA, UNA-Colombia, and UNDP can work together to overcome these challenges. This was followed by a visit to the Network of Community Kitchens to learn about policies affecting food security.

WFUNA staff ended the day with the UN Information Centre in Bogota to discuss the role of the UNA in Colombia in promoting the UN ideals.
